The Department of Arabic equips students with the necessary tools to engage the original sources of Islamic scholarship, and develops their communicative abilities to facilitate their participation in current debates.
Students are progressively introduced to master the fundamentals of Arabic language: Nahw (syntax) and Sarf (morphology). At a more advanced level, students are guided through the arts of Balāghah (rhetoric), Manṭiq (logic) and ‘ilm al-wad’ (semantics).
Along with these fundamentals, all four communicative skills, (reading comprehension, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension) will be gradually developed, while paying attention to expanding vocabularies for exploring classical texts and also modern usages.
