Course Instructors

Dr. Muhammad Stodolsky

Full-time faculty member and Chair of the Department of Theology, Darul Qasim 

Dr. Muhammad teaches Arabic, Islamic Law, and Islamic Theology. He has studied classical Islamic texts with scholars from Arab, Turkish, and Indian traditions. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. with honors from the University of Chicago’s Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. In 2008, he conducted research on the Ḥanafi school of Islamic law in Syria as a Fulbright fellow.

Mawlana Umar Ahmed

Full-time faculty member, Darul Qasim College

Mawlana Umar memorized the Quran at the Institute of Islamic Education (IIE) in Elgin, IL, and studied Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He graduated from the Advanced Islamic Studies Program at Darul Qasim College, focusing on Arabic, ʿaqīdah, fiqh, uṣūl al-fiqh, tafsīr, and Hadith. He holds an ijāzah in Ḥafṣ recitation from Mawlana Arif Kamal and Shaykh Mahmoud Akkawi, and is currently studying the ten qirāʾāt with them. Umar serves as a teaching assistant at Darul Qasim in Islamic law, theology, and tajwīd, and also teaches youth classes at Al-Rehman Academy.

Mawlana Uwais Iqbal

Visiting Instructor

Uwais Iqbal holds a BSc and MSc in Physics from Imperial College London, an MA in Islamic Studies from SOAS, an MA in Philosophy from King’s College London, and a traditional ʿĀlimiyyah qualification from Jāmia Sirāj al-ʿUlūm. He has also pursued advanced training in Islamic theology, Islamic philosophy and the rational sciences with scholars in Istanbul and at Darul Qasim. Uwais is also the Founder of Simplexico, a specialist AI consultancy serving the legal sector.

Is this suitable for international students?

MARS courses have been designed and scheduled with the international student in mind. Several courses have multiple time options to accommodate different global time zones for students living in the Middle East, South Asia, Africa, UK, and Turkey.

How much time commitment?

MARS courses are designed for the busy professional, student on the go, or even stay at home mom who is struggling to find an Islamic studies course that is manageable, but doesn’t compromise on content and quality of instruction. There is no homework. The average student will be committing about 2 hours per week.
